What Will I Learn in 2016

So, 2016 is here, I know it’s pretty late to post this sort of thing now (it’s 26th January!), but I think I need an extra motivation by writing down a reminder that’s publicly accessible. Anyway, this year I’m running full steam, working on 2 business that I co-founded. One is at Labtek Indie, an R&D company and the second one is at Framework, a company that provides IT development related courses and workshops.

With those in mind, it’s natural then for me to upgrade my skill to stay sharp in today’s era of fast moving tech. I decided to set up a short list of things to learn, so that I can master them without having to overwhelm me. Here they are:

  • Clojure. Because Labtek Indie will do a lot of rapid prototyping and after some tests and suggestions from close friend, REPL in functional paradigm will suit this. Moreover, learning a new way in thinking programmatically should benefit me., especially when crunching data in…
  • Machine learning. I suspect that this skill will help a lot of business and knowing this won’t hurt. Plus, I think it can leverage my computer vision skill. Also, I need more targeted algorithm training.
  • Meteor. Again, after running through the tutorial, I’m pretty convinced that this tool could help me rapidly build app.
  • Various front end skills. I need to keep up while brushing up on this.

I think those three should keep me in company throughout the year. I also keep a list of secret projects that could be helpful in applying those newly acquired knowledge.

Oh, and on the other hand, as a business owner, I owe myself to learn more about business, whether it’s through books or courses. So, this year is gonna be packed.

Bring it on 2016!

Vincent Vega

Dia jelas salah satu influens saya.

Singkat cerita, Minggu, 20 Mei kemarin, saya melakukan debut di muka publik bersama mereka. The six of them crafting beautiful sound, while me responding it through visual medium.

Cheers.

Interaction Design Diary: UX of Record Player

Listening to music, for some people is more than just pressing play, letting the song played in the background and doing what he/she was doing in the first place. Nope. It could be more than that.

I recently got a hold of a turntable and with that device I can now play records I’ve been collecting from few months back. Of course, the main purpose of buying this player was so I can listen to songs on those records and enjoying the hidden frequencies that weren’t heard on CD or mp3. However, I was wrong. Again, it was more than just that.

To start with, playing records wasn’t as easy as playing CD or cassete (my favorite physical music format ever). It involves a bit more dexterity in terms of putting on the record, carefully choosing which song to play and dropping that needle right where it belongs. And again, even the process of doing that, seeing the tone arm slowly drops, hearing a bit of crackle before the first song played were tiny details that makes listening records an amazing experience. To add even more, look at the cover or the record sleeve. Look at the size. A thing that size with that weight was obviously made to enjoy, to grace and to be examined. Now do that while listening to records. Compare it to looking at an album cover while listening to an album cover on your iPod or Winamp. Will you grace the cover?

That’s where the biggest difference lies. Records, were made not only so people can hear songs on it, but also to be enjoyed as a whole package. The whole processes can even be categorized as a ritual. At least for me. While on the other hand, listening to your mp3s won’t yield the same experience. Choosing mp3 to play is easy, playing it is as easy as clicking or pressing a play button. So easy, that you can do it in reflex mode and continue to browse the web.

To conclude, I’m not saying that mp3 is bad, and records are good. No. I’m just implying here that records, are made to be experienced in a different way than mp3 does. If you want to save the music industry, go ahead, buy those digital albums at will. However, if you want to fully enjoy music, then my friend, visit your nearest record store and start from there.

Happy Records Store Day 2012.

Art is an Escape

I’m so pissed off, so I started to pick up my guitar, threw some notes, played with it, and I felt a lot better.

During the course of my life, i’ve dealt with so many shit, these and those. But strangely though, I always managed to find my perfect escape: art. I remember when i was at junior high, I had some problem adapting at life at boarding school, so I began to draw a lot and learn how to play guitar.

Up to this day, I still find the beauty of creating something is the best way to deal with daily problem of being pushed from every direction. Thank you art for being such a great therapy for me.

Software EDA gratis buat Mac (2)

Cheers.
